The Role
Lumen Technologies is seeking a Manager, Solution Architectiture to lead and develop a team of technical architects supporting Public Sector Specialized sales across federal, state, and local government customers. This role is responsible for enabling sellers through expert solution design, technical leadership, and architectural oversight for complex security, managed and professional services, Voice over IP (VoIP), Contact Center, and Unified Communications solutions.
The Manager will act as a technical authority, people leader, and strategic partner to Sales and internal stakeholders, ensuring solutions are technically sound, compliant with public sector requirements, and clearly aligned to customer mission outcomes.
The Main Responsibilities
Seller & Deal Support
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance in support of all Public Sector sellers.
- Partner with Sales teams on complex and strategic opportunities, acting as a technical advisor and escalation point.
- Ensure proposed solutions are aligned with customer mission needs, operational requirements, and compliance obligations.
People Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Technology Architects supporting complex public sector solutions.
- Drive consistent technical standards, solution quality, and professional development across the team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer-centric problem solving.
Solution Architecture & Technical Oversight
- Oversee the design and review of integrated solutions across:
- Cybersecurity and security services
- Managed networking and professional services
- Integrated Voice over IP (VoIP)
- Contact Center platforms
- Unified Communications and collaboration solutions
- Ensure architectures are scalable, secure, and aligned with Lumen’s product and services portfolio.
Operational Excellence
- Establish best practices for solution design, documentation, and technical reviews.
- Balance workload and priorities across multiple sellers and high-visibility pursuits.
- Act as an escalation point for complex, high-risk, or non-standard solutions.
Innovation & Portfolio Alignment
- Stay current on emerging technologies, architectures, and public sector trends.
- Partner with product, engineering, and services teams to align customer needs with Lumen’s roadmap.
- Support the adoption of automation, AI-enabled services, and next-generation communications technologies where appropriate.
Public Sector Compliance & Risk Awareness
- Guide the team in designing solutions that align with public sector procurement and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure awareness and consideration of frameworks such as NIST, FedRAMP, FISMA, and related standards in solution design.
What We Look For in a Candidate
- Ten Plus years of experience in telecommunications, networking, cybersecurity, or IT services.
- Experience supporting federal, state, and local government customers.
- Familiarity with public sector contracts and vehicles (e.g., EIS, GSA, DoD, NASPO).
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, FISMA, ISO, CJIS).
- Experience with managed services, advanced communications, and complex multi-domain solution design.
- Prior experience in a solution architecture, pre-sales engineering, or technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting complex public sector opportunities.
- Proven people management or team leadership experience.
- Strong ability to translate technical capabilities into clear customer value propositions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree advanced degree or equivalent years of expereince.
- Occasional travel may be required to support customers, sellers, or internal planning activities.
- Position may require eligibility to support government customers with elevated security requirements.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$128,174 - $170,888 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$134,579 - $179,435 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$140,994 - $187,982 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
